How to Set-up Email Addresses in Outlook Express

This document describes step-by-step how to set up an email account under Microsoft Outlook Express. Lets assume you have registered the domain mydomain.com and you have already set-up a physical mailbox for jack@mydomain.com as described in our FAQ document available at (www.divisionx.com/faq.html). You will need the following information to complete the set-up:

The email address you are trying to set-up in Outlook Express e.g. jack@mydomain.com

Your account name is the same as the name of your mailbox i.e. for the email address jack@mydomain.com your account name is jack

Your password for accessing your email account is the one you assigned when creating your physical mailbox

Your POP3 server is the same as your domain name i.e. mydomain.com as in this example

Your SMTP server. Please contact your Internet Service Provider who supplies you with your Internet connection and ask them what SMTP server you should use and how to set it up in Outlook Express.

If for some reason you are unable use your ISP’s SMTP server you can try using your domain name (e.g. mydomain.com as in this example) as the SMTP server. You will have to tick "My server requires authentication" under Tools->Accounts->your email address->Servers Tab

Step-by-Step Guide

Launch Outlook Express

From the menu bar at the top of the window click on Tools

You should see a list of options. From these options select Accounts

You will see a window called Internet Accounts. At the top right-hand corner of this window is a button called Add. Click on this and select Mail as shown below.

Your should now see the box shown below. Simply Type in your full name and click Next

You will now see the box below. Enter the email address you are trying to set-up (e.g. jack@mydomain.com) and click Next

You should now be presented with window shown below. Please make sure you have selected POP3 in the box "My incoming mail server is a" section. In the other boxes enter your POP3 and your SMTP server names. Please refer to the very first section of this document if you do not remember what they should be. Click Next when finished

Note: smtp.myisp.com is just an example. Please refer to the very first paragraph of this document

This is the final step. You will now see the box below. Please enter the account name and password for your email account in the boxes indicated. Please ensure "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is NOT ticked, and Remember Password IS ticked (as shown).

After clicking Next you will see a final screen. Just click Finish to complete the set-up of your account. You can then Close the final window. Now to check everything is working just send yourself an email.

Now you are ready to send and receive emails.
